Zombies - The Latest Craze

Obviously, being a Call of Duty game, World of War was a pretty damn popular game. The thing about about it that was probably it's biggest selling point, in my opinion was the 'Nazi Zombie' mode.

Prior to it's release I'd heard various people claiming how it was supposedly created using the same engine and base coding as Call of Duty 4. I've never actually looked into these details, but just looking at the game, the graphics aren't a massive innovative leap, so I'm guessing that wasn't what everyone was screaming about. As with all other Call of Duty games the online has become a generic thing, with very little changes, so I don't thing anyone was overly bothered by that, I certainly wasn't. To me it does seem that Zombies was the game's main selling point.

Back to my main point... to me it seems that World at War has started an almost chain-reaction of zombie related media. Notjust games. I believe I'm right in saying that there was a Nazi Zombie film made, although I don't think it was in connection with the game mode. There's also been new additions to the Resident Evil film series and the comedy Zombieland.

Even back within the games industry there's been a load of zombie games that have been released. Titles such as Zombie Apocalypse, Burn Zombie Burn, Zombie Run and Plants vs Zombies. And just a few months ago there was the latest addition to the CoD series with Black Ops, which featured yet more zombies.

And finally today, whilst playing LittleBigPlanet 2, which has been out roughly four weeks, there's already a number of zombie based levels.

I in no way have a problem with the theme of zombies or anything similar, but I am beginning to wonder as to whether games based around this are going to become to generic or cliche. As with any industry, it will always focus on a particular theme or subject, as with the film and television industry with vampires. Soon they too will most likely become an outdated or unwated subject.

Maybe it won't be long before werewolves take the spotlight.

Again thanks for taking the time to read this post. I hope my views aren't too cynical or odd.
Thanks,

Day One - Strange beginnings

Hello to all that read this. For the sake of the internet I am 'randomthings'. Why my online name came to be that is to me, still rather funny. While once signing up to something I was thinking through various usernames, all of which were takes. I then said aloud to myself 'Oh, if I just type a load of random things, surely they won't all be taken.' While saying this I had aimlessly actually typed 'randomthings' into the bar and the system then told me it was indeed avalible. After that I simply stuck with it.

As for my reasons for this blog. Well, I want to be able to document some aspect of my life. If I wanted to outright just make a record of what I do each day, in my opinion, it would be easier to just keep a diary. Video games are a big thing to me. My two favourite pastimes are listening to music and playing games.

Obviously everyone's tastes are different. With music I could post my opinions on albums. Then people could come along and completely oppose my views. With games I think it a 'review' can be seen a lot more generally. Different aspects of games are set in stone. The graphics work in such and such a way, the game has certain modes and works in a set way.

So really, to me it seemed a lot smarter to chose games over music. At the moment I currently own a Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, which I hope to review the games for. I do have a PC, although it's hardly one designed for gaming, but I might attempt to go through a few games on it.

So, as far as gaming is concerned I guess that's me. I hope I've given some decent form of introduction and hope that this can actually go somewhere.
